Abstract

Komodo (Varanus komodoensis), spesies kadal terbesar di dunia, hanya ditemukan di Pulau Komodo dan sekitarnya di Indonesia. Statusnya saat ini terancam punah menurut IUCN. Program konservasi dilakukan oleh berbagai pihak, termasuk Polisi Kehutanan BTNK dan Komodo Survival Program, dengan fokus pada pengawasan populasi komodo, mangsa, habitat, dan pelibatan masyarakat lokal. Teknologi diintegrasikan untuk membantu proses konservasi agar lebih efisien. Namun, medan dan topografi ekstrem di Taman Nasional Komodo, seperti perbukitan, hutan lebat, dan daerah pesisir berpasir, menghambat kegiatan konservasi, termasuk patroli dan riset. Penggunaan kendaraan bermotor di taman nasional juga berpotensi merusak ekosistem, seperti polusi gas emisi dan suara yang mengganggu keseimbangan ekosistem. Oleh karena itu, banyak ranger yang lebih memilih berjalan kaki dalam melaksanakan tugasnya. Sistem ini terbukti kurang efektif karena masih adanya perburuan liar di TN Komodo. Pengumpulan data dilakukan dengan melakukan interview untuk mengetahui medan yang dilalui serta spesifikasi yang dibutuhkan untuk menaklukan medan tersebut, serta mengetahui kebutuhan dalam menjalankan kegiatan konservasi. Data tersebut kemudian diolah dengan metode design thinking untuk menentukan solusi terbaik dari permasalahan yang ada dan kemudian diwujudkan dengan pembuatan prototipe untuk dievaluasi. Berdasarkan permasalahan diatas ditemukan Perancangan kendaraan ramah lingkungan yang dapat menaklukan medan ekstrem di TN Komodo dapat membantu efektivitas kegiatan konservasi Komodo. Smart, Safe, Protect merupakan 3 kata kunci utama yang menggambarkan visi dan misi kendaraan ini.

The Komodo dragon (Varanus komodoensis), the largest lizard species in the world, is found only on Komodo Island and its surroundings in Indonesia. Its current status is endangered according to the IUCN. Conservation programs are being carried out by various parties, including the BTNK Forest Police and the Komodo Survival Program, with a focus on monitoring the Komodo population, prey, habitat, and involving local communities. Technology is being integrated to help make the conservation process more efficient. However, the extreme terrain and topography of Komodo National Park, such as hills, dense forests, and sandy coastal areas, hinder conservation activities, including patrols and research. The use of motorized vehicles in the national park also has the potential to damage the ecosystem, such as air pollution and noise that disrupt the balance of the ecosystem. Therefore, many rangers prefer to walk during their tasks. This system has proven to be less effective due to the continued illegal hunting in Komodo NP. Data collection is carried out through interviews to understand the terrain traversed, the specifications needed to conquer the terrain, and the requirements for carrying out conservation activities. This data is then processed using design thinking methods to determine the best solution for the existing problems, which is then realized through the creation of a prototype for evaluation. Based on the issues mentioned, the design of an environmentally friendly vehicle that can conquer the extreme terrain in Komodo NP could help improve the effectiveness of Komodo conservation activities. Smart, Safe, Protect are the three key words that describe the vision and mission of this vehicle.
