Abstract

This study discusses the utilization of ceramic tableware waste as an attractive material in the design of environmentally conscious jewelry products. The research adopts the Cradle-to-Cradle theory, emphasizing product sustainability by maximizing the use of waste materials through upcycling, in response to the issue of non-biodegradable ceramic tableware waste. The objective of this study is to design jewelry that not only possesses aesthetic value but also adds value to waste materials through a sustainable design approach. The methodology employed is the Double Diamond design process, consisting of the discover, define, develop, and deliver stages. The outcome of this study is a jewelry prototype that combines ceramic tableware waste with sterling silver. The concept behind the design is the transformation of waste into valuable objects through an emotional design approach targeted at Generation Z women. This study demonstrates that ceramic tableware waste has not only functional potential but also the ability to convey aesthetic and emotional value through the medium of jewelry.
