Abstract

Candi Tikus in Mojokerto is a significant archaeological site with potential subsurface structures that have yet to be fully uncovered. This study aims to map the distribution, dimensions, and depth of underground structures using Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR) and Electrical Resistivity Tomography (ERT). These non-destructive methods were chosen for their ability to detect buried structures through electromagnetic wave reflections and the electrical properties of subsurface materials. GPR results reveal randomly scattered high-amplitude reflection anomalies at depths of 1 to 2 meters below the surface. These anomalies are interpreted as walls forming linear and perpendicular patterns in plots A, B, E, and F, with dimensions ranging from 1×5 meters to 10×18 meters. At depths greater than 3 meters, the GPR signal weakens due to attenuation by moist soil, making the structures less clearly detectable. Therefore, ERT was employed to map high-resistivity anomalies at these deeper levels. The ERT results indicate a possible water channel in the northern block, approximately 1 to 2 meters wide, extending northward. Spatial correlations between the GPR and ERT anomalies strengthen the interpretation of archaeological structures in several locations, particularly in the front yard of plot B and the backyard of plot F. These findings demonstrate that integrating GPR and ERT provides strong indications of buried structures at the Candi Tikus heritage site. These findings are expected to support site preservation efforts and contribute to the development of archaeological geophysics in Indonesia.
