Abstract

Indonesia memiliki potensi besar dalam pengembangan serat alam sebagai hasil hutan bukan kayu (HHBK) yang dapat diperbarui. Namun, pemanfaatannya mengalami penurunan dan masih bergantung pada impor. Salah satu serat lokal yang potensial adalah serat agel dari pohon gebang, yang dimanfaatkan oleh pelaku UMKM untuk produk kerajinan. Sayangnya, pengembangan produk anyaman agel masih terbatas pada bentuk konvensional dengan daya saing rendah. Di sisi lain, tren produk berkelanjutan semakin diminati oleh konsumen yang peduli lingkungan, termasuk dalam industri furnitur. Permintaan terhadap furniture ramah lingkungan terus meningkat, terutama dari segmen pasar kafe yang berkembang pesat. Furnitur kafe kini tidak hanya berfungsi sebagai pelengkap ruang, tetapi juga sebagai elemen penting dalam menciptakan suasana yang nyaman dan menarik. Pemilihan material lokal berkelanjutan, desain ergonomis, serta efisiensi dalam pengadaan dan pengiriman, seperti penggunaan sistem stacking, menjadi solusi strategis untuk memenuhi kebutuhan industri ini. Oleh karena itu, pengembangan furniture kafe berbahan anyaman agel material alam yang berkelanjutan merupakan peluang untuk mendukung kebutuhan pasar furnitur berkelanjutan sekaligus menjawab tuntutan pasar modern.

Indonesia has great potential in developing natural fibers as renewable non-timber forest products (HHBK). However, their utilization has been declining and remains dependent on imports. One promising local fiber is agel, sourced from the gebang palm, which is commonly used by UMKMs for craft products. Unfortunately, the development of agel weaving products is still limited to conventional forms with low competitiveness. On the other hand, the trend of sustainable products is gaining popularity among environmentally conscious consumers, including in the furniture industry. The demand for eco-friendly furniture continues to rise, especially in the rapidly growing café market segment. Today, café furniture not only complements interior spaces but also plays an important role in creating a comfortable and appealing atmosphere. The use of sustainable local materials, ergonomic design, and efficiency in procurement and delivery such as stackable systems offers strategic solutions for meeting the needs of this industry. Therefore, developing agel woven café furniture made from natural materials presents a valuable opportunity to support the sustainable furniture market while responding to the demands of the modern market.
