Abstract

Wounds are the degradation of epithelial tissue due to injury or surgery. The prevalence of injuries in Indonesia is 9.2%, with 64.1% of wounds being abrasions/bruises and 20.1% being lacerations/cuts. Current conventional treatment methods such as cotton and plaster have limited efficacy, while wet gauze can dry out and stick to the wound, disrupting the moisture balance. Wound dressing material combinations provide a solution to accelerate wound healing and have good biocompatibility properties. Therefore, this study examines the combination of Carboxymethyl Cellulose/Chitosan/Sodium Alginate (CMC/CS/SA) materials with the addition of Ag and ZnO as antibacterial agents for wound dressing applications. The aim is to determine the characteristics and antibacterial properties of Ag- and ZnO-impregnated CMC/CS/SA material combinations for wound dressing applications using the probe ultrasonication method. Next, the Ag- and ZnO-impregnated CMC/CS/SA material was characterized by FTIR, XRD, SEM, swelling ratio, and bacterial activity test.
