Abstract

The issue of child development in Indonesia, particularly in motor development, remains a concern that requires serious attention. Data from various institutions such as WHO, BPS, the Ministry of Health, and UNICEF indicate that the percentage of young children experiencing developmental delays is relatively high. Early childhood is a crucial phase for learning, growth, and character formation, where play serves as the primary medium that supports these processes. One effective method to stimulate child development is through pretend play, as it encourages cognitive, fine and gross motor, as well as social-emotional development.
On the other hand, the introduction of professions to children is still limited to common roles such as doctors or teachers, and rarely touches on technical professions like mechanics. In fact, the mechanic profession plays a significant role in the industrial sector and is relevant to be introduced from an early age. Therefore, the design of play media that combines professional education with active play becomes important.
This research resulted in a pretend play toy set themed around the car mechanic profession, designed for children aged 3–8 years. The product includes interactive features such as changing tires, inspecting the engine, and refuelling. Through a design approach that is safe, engaging, and developmentally supportive, this product is expected to serve as an effective and meaningful medium for learning through play.
