Abstract

menghilangkan nilai historis bangunan.

This research focuses on the interior redesign of the Museum of Fine Arts and Ceramics
in Jakarta, located in the Kota Tua area of West Jakarta, a heritage site with significant potential
in the field of educational tourism, particularly for school students who make up the majority
of its visitors. However, the learning experience at this museum remains suboptimal due to the
limited application of interactive learning methods. The research questions include: (1) How
can the interior redesign of the Museum of Fine Arts and Ceramics enhance the understanding
of Indonesian fine arts and ceramics through more engaging presentations, especially for
students?; (2) How can the museum’s circulation be arranged more flexibly to accommodate
different types of visits?; and (3) How can the museum update its interior to remain relevant in
the modern era without losing its historical value and heritage character? The purpose of this
redesign is to create an engaging and participatory learning experience, reorganize the
circulation based on a curatorial narrative, and modernize the interior while preserving the
building's historical integrity. The method used is design thinking, which involves the stages of
empathize, define, ideate, prototype, and test. Data were collected through observation and
interviews with both visitors and museum staff. The design outcomes include interactive
elements such as audiovisual storytelling and educational play zones, directed circulation and
inclusive facilities, as well as an updated Neoclassical aesthetic that remains in harmony with
the heritage context and the museum’s educational function.
