Abstract

Green open spaces (RTH), such as city parks have an important role in improving environmental quality, as well as supporting children's physical and emotional development. However, there are still many parks in big cities that are less than optimal, monotonous, and not child-friendly. Surabaya City has a number of potential parks, such as Taman Flora, Taman Bungkul, and Taman Prestasi, which are strategically located in the city center and already have children's play facilities. However, there are still various obstacles such as lack of safety, comfort, and completeness of facilities. Therefore, an optimization strategy is needed to make these parks a child-friendly public spaces that are safe, attractive, and supports children's overall growth and development.
This research uses a descriptive qualitative approach, with direct observation methods of the existing conditions of the park and interviews with park visitors and related parties. In addition, Importance Performance Analysis (IPA) analysis was also conducted as a tool to measure visitor perceptions of the level of importance and performance of child-friendly park aspects in the three research locations. The results of the analysis are used as the basis for formulating optimization strategies that are in accordance with the conditions and needs of child visitors to the three parks.
The results showed that all variables are available and rated quite well, but when viewed from the level of performance and expectations, the condition of the park is still not fully optimized as a child-friendly public space. Therefore, further strategies are needed to optimize these supporting aspects.
