Abstract

A mixture of n-heptane and n-propanol/n-butanol in printing industry solvents can form azeotropes, making separation difficult and causing component accumulation. To recover these mixtures into pure components, an effective and environmentally friendly separation technology is required, such as liquid-liquid extraction. This study aims to determine the liquid-liquid equilibrium (LLE) data for the n-heptane and n-propanol/n-butanol systems using Deep Eutectic Solvents (DES) ChCl-DEG and ChCl-TEG at 30 °C and atmospheric pressure, calculate separation factor and distribution coefficient to evaluate extraction performance, and obtain interaction parameters using the NRTL and UNIQUAC models. ChCl-DEG and ChCl-TEG were selected due to their biodegradability and good thermal stability. The operating conditions of 30 °C (303.15 K) and atmospheric pressure (101.3 kPa) were chosen to simulate near-room temperature conditions, making the process more applicable in industry without requiring high energy input. The process involved DES synthesis, phase boundary measurement, followed by liquid-liquid extraction, with sample analysis conducted using Gas Chromatography and gravimetric methods.
