Abstract

This study aims to analyze the influence of Entrepreneurs’ Network Ties and Recovering Capability on Business Continuity Intention among Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) in Surabaya, with Entrepreneurial Competency as a mediating variable. The research is grounded in the growing importance of business continuity in the face of environmental uncertainty and post-pandemic challenges. A quantitative approach was employed using Covariance-Based Structural Equation Modeling (CB-SEM) to examine the causal relationships between constructs in the proposed model. Data were collected through questionnaires distributed to 250 MSME actors in Surabaya, selected using a purposive sampling technique. The results indicate that all direct and indirect hypotheses proposed in this study are supported. Directly, Entrepreneurs’ Network Ties and Recovering Capability have a significant positive effect on both Entrepreneurial Competency and Business Continuity Intention. In addition, Entrepreneurial Competency significantly influences Business Continuity Intention. The mediation test further shows that Entrepreneurial Competency mediates the relationship between both Entrepreneurs’ Network Ties and Recovering Capability toward Business Continuity Intention. These findings highlight that strengthening business networks, enhancing recovery abilities, and improving entrepreneurial competencies are key drivers of sustainable business continuity among MSMEs. This research contributes theoretically to the development of a business continuity model based on the Resource-Based View (RBV) theory and provides practical implications for MSME actors and policymakers in designing empowerment and capacity-building programs.
