Abstract
Industri kerajinan kayu di Indonesia terus berkembang pesat dengan didukung oleh kekayaan sumber daya alam. Dengan memanfaatkan material kayu meranti merah yang dikenal ringan, kuat, mudah dibentuk, serta mudah untuk didapatkan dapat menjadi potensi besar untuk digunakan berbagai produk kerajinan. Selain itu, untuk mencari peluang dalam pengembangan produk tableware dapat memanfaatkan penggunaan teknik kerf bending. Teknik kerf bending merupakan sebuah metode pemotongan pola pada material untuk meningkatkan fleksibilitas. Meningkatnya sektor penyedia makanan dan minuman seperti kafe dapat membuka peluang untuk industri kerajinan kayu. Oleh karena itu, penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengembangkan desain produk kerajinan jenis tableware untuk memenuhi kebutuhan pasar usaha penyedia makanan dan minuman dengan memanfaatkan material kayu meranti merah dan teknik kerf bending. Metode penelitian melibatkan pengumpulan data primer melalui observasi, wawancara mendalam dengan potensi calon pengguna, serta benchmarking produk serupa. Data sekunder diperoleh melalui studi literatur mengenai karakteristik material, teknik kerf bending, dan teori desain produk. Eksperimen dilakukan untuk menentukan pola potong eksisting yang optimal pada kayu meranti merah, serta menguji kelayakan material dalam desain tableware. Desain ini diharapkan tidak hanya memenuhi kebutuhan pasar akan produk lokal yang ramah lingkungan, tetapi juga meningkatkan daya saing industri kerajinan kayu Indonesia di pasar global.

The wood handicraft industry in Indonesia continues to grow rapidly with the support of rich natural resources. By utilizing red meranti wood material which is known to be lightweight, strong, malleable, and easy to obtain, it can be a great potential for use in various craft products. In addition, to find opportunities in the development of tableware products, the use of kerf bending techniques can be utilized. The kerf bending technique is a method of cutting patterns in materials to increase flexibility. The increasing food and beverage sector such as cafes can open up opportunities for the wood craft industry. Therefore, this research aims to develop a tableware craft product design to meet the needs of the food and beverage business market by utilizing red meranti wood material and kerf bending techniques. The research method involved primary data collection through observation, in-depth interviews with potential users, and benchmarking of similar products. Secondary data was obtained through literature studies on material characteristics, kerf bending techniques, and product design theory. Experiments were conducted to determine the optimal existing cutting pattern on red meranti wood, as well as to test the feasibility of the material in tableware design. This design is expected to not only fulfill the market's need for local, environmentally friendly products, but also increase the competitiveness of Indonesia's wood craft industry in the global market.
