Abstract

Mata kuliah dasar termasuk Kalkulus merupakan salah satu mata kuliah dasar yang wajib diambil oleh seluruh mahasiswa tahun pertama dan kedua di Institut Teknologi Sepuluh Nopember (ITS). Sebagai fondasi keilmuan di berbagai program studi, keberhasilan mahasiswa dalam mata kuliah dasar ini sangat penting. Namun, tingkat kelulusan mata kuliah dasar Kalkulus khususnya Kalkulus 1 mengalami penurunan dalam dua tahun terakhir, dengan 19,53% mahasiswa tahun angkatan 2023 dinyatakan tidak lulus. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengeksplorasi dan menguji pengaruh faktor-faktor demografi, psikologi, perilaku, akademik, dan pendidikan terhadap kelulusan mahasiswa dalam mata kuliah Kalkulus dan memodelkannya menggunakan metode Classification and Regression Trees (CART). Hasil pendekatan dengan metode CART memberikan informasi bahwa faktor akademik seperti nilai TPA dan nilai TEFL, faktor psikologis seperti gaya belajar, dan faktor pendidikan seperti mata pelajaran peminatan dan jalur masuk berkontribusi signifikan pada keberhasilan mahasiswa di mata kuliah dasar Kalkulus. Sebaliknya, faktor perilaku dan demografi menunjukkan kontribusi rendah dalam model. Model klasifikasi CART yang dibangun menghasilkan akurasi sebesar 76,51%, dengan presisi 83,82%, sensitifitas 78,89%, dan spesifisitas 72,15%, menunjukkan performa yang cukup baik dalam memprediksi status kelulusan.

Basic courses including Calculus are one of the basic courses that must be taken by all first and second year students at the Sepuluh Nopember Institute of Technology (ITS). As a foundation of knowledge in various study programs, student success in this basic course is very important. However, the pass rate for basic Calculus courses, especially Calculus 1, has decreased in the last two years, with 19.53% of students in the 2023 intake being declared to have failed. This study aims to explore and test the influence of demographic, psychological, behavioral, academic, and educational factors on student graduation in Calculus courses and model them using the Classification and Regression Trees (CART) method. The results of the CART method approach provide information that academic factors such as TPA scores and TEFL scores, psychological factors such as learning styles, and educational factors such as elective subjects and admission pathways contribute significantly to student success in basic Calculus courses. In contrast, behavioral and demographic factors show low contributions in the model. The CART classification model built produced an accuracy of 76.51%, with a precision of 83.82%, a sensitivity of 78.89%, and a specificity of 72.15%, indicating quite good performance in predicting graduation status.
