Abstract

One of the middle-range national objectives increase economic growth as measured by the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) variable. Multilateral cooperation has been chosen as a step to achieve this national objective. One of Indonesia's multilateral cooperation initiatives is the Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC). The APEC member countries in the Southeast Asian region are Indonesia, Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, Vietnam, the Philippines, and Brunei Darussalam. This study aims to identify the variables that influence GDP in APEC member countries in the Southeast Asian region from 2019 to 2023. The data used comes from the official World Bank website with 35 observations and 5 variables. The variables suspected to influence GDP are the Consumer Price Index (CPI), Foreign Direct Investment (FDI), Government Expenditure, and Terms of Trade (TOT). These variables were selected based on GDP calculations using the expenditure approach. This study uses a dynamic panel data regression model with the System Generalized Method of Moments (SYS-GMM) estimation method. The dynamic model was chosen because it is capable of addressing the dynamism of macroeconomic variables. This study shows that there are two variables that significantly influence GDP, namely Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) and Consumer Price Index (CPI). Meanwhile, the Government Expenditure and Terms of Trade (TOT) variables do not have a significant influence.
