Abstract
Padi (Oryza sativa L.) merupakan salah satu komoditas utama yang hasil olahannya dijadikan bahan pokok makanan masyarakat Indonesia. Kabupaten Tuban menjadi wilayah penghasil padi tertinggi nomor lima di Provinsi Jawa Timur dengan produksi padi sebesar 607.742 ton dengan luas panen mencapai 104.280 hektar pada tahun 2018. Salah satu varietas padi yang dibudidayakan di Kabupaten Tuban adalah HMS 700. Dengan hasil produksi pertanian tersebut, terdapat suatu permasalahan berupa agriculture waste dan open burning biomass dari limbah sekam padi. Salah satu upaya penanggulangannya adalah dengan merubah sekam menjadi produk biochar, akan tetapi tingkat efektivitas produk biochar sendiri bergantung pada kualitas bahan baku yang digunakan. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk membandingkan produktivitas biomassa sekam padi varietas HMS 700 dan karakteristik biochar yang dihasilkan dari tiga lokasi berbeda di Kabupaten Tuban (Kecamatan Jenu, Plumpang, dan Palang), serta menentukan kondisi lingkungan paling optimal untuk menghasilkan biochar berkualitas tinggi. Penelitian dilakukan dengan metode kuantitatif eksperimental. Sekam padi dikarbonisasi menggunakan pirolisis suhu rendah pada 250 °C selama 4 jam. Karakterisasi biochar meliputi rendemen, pH, kapasitas memegang air (water holding capacity/WHC), analisis proksimat (moisture, volatile matter, ash, dan fixed carbon), serta kandungan unsur kimia menggunakan X-Ray Fluorescence (XRF). Analisis data dilakukan menggunakan ANOVA satu arah dan uji lanjut Tukey HSD.Hasil menunjukkan bahwa Kecamatan Jenu memiliki produktivitas biomassa sekam tertinggi secara signifikan (p < 0,05). Namun, karakteristik biochar antar lokasi tidak menunjukkan perbedaan signifikan, meskipun terdapat variasi nilai numerik. Hal ini mengindikasikan bahwa karakteristik biochar relatif seragam, sehingga pemilihan lokasi berbasis produktivitas biomassa menjadi faktor penentu utama dalam produksi biochar.

Rice (Oryza sativa L.) is one of the main agricultural commodities whose processed product serves as a staple food for the Indonesian population. Tuban Regency ranks fifth as the highest rice-producing region in East Java Province, with a total production of 607,742 tons and a harvested area of 104,280 hectares in 2018. One of the rice varieties cultivated in Tuban is HMS 700. This agricultural production generates a significant amount of agricultural waste, particularly rice husk biomass, which is often subjected to open burning. One potential solution to address this issue is converting rice husks into biochar. However, the effectiveness of biochar highly depends on the quality of its raw material. This study aims to compare the productivity of rice husk biomass from the HMS 700 variety and the characteristics of biochar produced from three different locations in Tuban Regency (Jenu, Plumpang, and Palang), as well as to determine the most optimal environmental conditions for producing high-quality biochar. The research was conducted using a quantitative experimental method. The rice husks were carbonized using low-temperature pyrolysis at 250 °C for 4 hours. Biochar characterization included yield, pH, water holding capacity (WHC), proximate analysis (moisture, volatile matter, ash, and fixed carbon), and chemical composition using X-Ray Fluorescence (XRF). Data were analyzed using one-way ANOVA followed by Tukey HSD test. The results showed that Jenu District had the highest rice husk biomass productivity with statistically significant differences (p < 0.05). However, the biochar characteristics across locations did not differ significantly, although numerical variations were observed. This indicates that the characteristics of biochar is relatively consistent, and the selection of raw material sources should be primarily based on biomass productivity.
