Abstract

Filtrasi merupakan tahapan penting dalam pengolahan air limbah greywater yang berfungsi untuk menyaring dan menghilangkan partikel tersuspensi serta kontaminan yang terkandung pada air limbah menggunakan media filter. Penggunaan media filter secara terus- menerus dalam proses filtrasi memerlukan perawatan rutin, salah satunya melalui proses backwash. Pada penelitian ini, dibuat sistem kontrol backwash otomatis yang beroperasi berdasarkan tingkat kekeruhan air. Sistem kontrol ini menggunakan metode feedback closed loop dengan mode kontrol on-off, dengan sensor turbidity digunakan untuk mengukur tingkat kekeruhan air yang dihubungkan dengan Arduino Mega 2560 sebagai mikrokontroler untuk menerima serta mengolah data pengukuran dari sensor. Hasil pengujian menunjukkan bahwa pada setpoint 80 NTU, proses backwash terjadi sebanyak 2 kali dengan durasi masing-masing 47 menit dan 40 menit. Sementara itu, pada setpoint 50 NTU, proses backwash terjadi sebanyak 4 kali dengan dengan durasi 30, 23, 32, dan 15 menit. Sistem backwash otomatis berperan sebagai strategi preventive maintenance untuk mempermudah perawatan filter, mengurangi frekuensi pergantian media filter, mengurangi penyumbatan akibat kotoran sehingga proses filtrasi menjadi optimal, serta memperpanjang masa pakai media filter.

Filtration is an important stage in greywater treatment, serving to filter and remove suspended particles and contaminants contained in wastewater using filter media. The continuous use of filter media in the filtration process requires routine maintenance, one of which is through the backwash process. In this study, an automatic backwash control system was developed that operates based on water turbidity levels. This control system employs a feedback closed loop control method with on-off control mode, utilizing a turbidity sensor to measure water turbidity levels, which is connected to an Arduino Mega 2560 microcontroller to receive and process measurement data from the sensor. Test results indicate that at a setpoint of 80 NTU, the backwash process occurs twice, with durations of 47 minutes and 40 minutes. Meanwhile, at a setpoint of 50 NTU, the backwash process occurred four times with durations of 30, 23, 32, and 15 minutes. The automatic backwash system serves as a preventive maintenance strategy to simplify filter maintenance, reduce the frequency of filter media replacement, minimize blockages caused by debris, thereby optimizing the filtration process, and extending the lifespan of the filter media.
