Abstract
Timbal (Pb) merupakan salah satu logam berat yang dapat mencemari habitat perairan kepiting bakau (Scylla serrata). Timbal yang terakumulasi pada jaringan kepiting dapat menghambat pertumbuhan maupun proses moulting dari kepiting bakau. Oleh karena itu, penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui pengaruh timbal terhadap pertumbuhan dan perilaku moulting kepiting bakau. Kepiting bakau diberi perlakuan dengan variasi konsentrasi timbal, yaitu kontrol 0 ppm, 10 ppm, 20 ppm, dan 30 ppm. Parameter pertumbuhan yang diukur yaitu berat, panjang, dan lebar karapas yang diamati setiap 3 hari sekali selama 40 hari serta perilakunya. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa paparan timbal sangat berpengaruh terhadap pertumbuhan dan kelangsungan hidup kepiting bakau. Pada perlakuan 10 ppm menunjukkan pertambahan berat sebesar 7 gr, panjang 0,21 cm, dan lebar 0,27 cm sedangkan pada perlakuan 20 ppm mengalami penurunan berat sebesar 5,68 gr, namun mengalami pertambahan panjang dan lebar yang masing-masing 0,03 cm. Perlakuan 30 ppm, mengalami penurunan baik pada berat, panjang, dan lebarnya masing-masing 3,7 gr, 0,24 cm, dan 0,1 cm. Hasil penelitian juga menunjukkan pada perlakuan 10 ppm kepiting dapat bertahan hidup selama masa penelitian, sedangkan rata-rata kelangsungan hidup pada perlakuan 20 ppm dan 30 ppm masing-masing 30 dan 19 hari. Tidak terdapat kepiting yang mengalami moulting selama penelitian berlangsung, namun didapatkan perubahan perilaku kepiting akibat paparan timbal, utamanya pada 30 ppm, agresivitas kepiting meningkat kemudian beranjak lemas dan mati. Dengan demikian, timbal pada konsentrasi tinggi ≥ 20 ppm dapat menghambat pertumbuhan kepiting hingga kematian. Timbal menciptakan stress fisiologis dan defisit energi yang ekstrem bagi kepiting yang menekan mekanisme hormonal untuk memulai siklus moulting.

Lead (Pb) is one of the heavy metals that can contaminate the aquatic habitat of mangrove crabs (Scylla serrata). Lead accumulated in crab tissue can inhibit growth and moulting processes in mangrove crabs. Therefore, this study aims to determine the effect of lead on the growth and moulting behaviour of mangrove crabs. Mangrove crabs were exposed to varying lead concentrations: control (0 ppm), 10 ppm, 20 ppm, and 30 ppm. Growth parameters measured included weight, length, and carapace width, observed every three days over 40 days, along with behavioural changes. The results showed that lead exposure significantly affected the growth and survival of mangrove crabs. At the 10 ppm treatment, there was an increase in weight of 7 g, length of 0.21 cm, and width of 0.27 cm, while at the 20 ppm treatment, there was a decrease in weight of 5.68 g, but an increase in length and width of 0.03 cm each. The 30 ppm treatment showed a decrease in weight, length, and width of 3.7 g, 0.24 cm, and 0.1 cm, respectively. The study also showed that crabs in the 10 ppm treatment survived throughout the study period, while the average survival rates in the 20 ppm and 30 ppm treatments were 30 and 19 days, respectively. No crabs underwent moulting during the study, but behavioural changes were observed in crabs exposed to lead, particularly at 30 ppm, with increased aggression followed by lethargy and death. Thus, lead at high concentrations ≥ 20 ppm can inhibit crab growth to the point of death. Lead induces extreme physiological stress and energy deficits in crabs, which suppress the hormonal mechanisms necessary to initiate the moulting cycle.
