Abstract

The availability of clean water is a vital element in ensuring the comfort and safety of ship passengers, especially during long-distance voyages. One of the key components in the clean water distribution system on passenger ships is the pump, which functions to maintain pressure and ensure that the water supply can reach all compartments. This study aims to analyze the performance of the booster pump head in distributing clean water on the KM Sail Indonesia passenger ship, which has a capacity of 424 people and an estimated clean water demand of up to 80,000 liters per day. The analysis was conducted using a simulation method based on the software, which enables detailed modeling of fluid flow in the ship's piping system. The research stages include theoretical calculations of pump requirements, system distribution modeling, and simulations of RPM and pipe diameter variations. The results show that the KSB Etanorm type 65-40-250 pump configuration, with a maximum head of 21 meters and a capacity of 31 m³/hour, is capable of meeting the clean water distribution needs onboard. Variations in pipe diameter significantly affect head performance, with the 40A Sch 80s pipe generating the highest head, while the 40A Sch 5s pipe demonstrated the lowest performance due to greater pressure losses. The simulation also confirms a linear relationship between an increase in pump RPM and an increase in head. This study emphasizes that selecting the appropriate pump and pipe configuration, along with proper RPM settings, greatly influences the efficiency of clean water distribution on passenger vessels.
