Abstract

Compression on the double bottom structure of a tanker ship is a primary load that affects the strength and safety of the vessel. Compression analysis is necessary to ensure the structural integrity of the ship in withstanding the applied load without experiencing damage or excessive deformation. The compression analysis process requires significant time and a deep understanding of the structural behavior. To address this challenge, a Graphical User Interface (GUI) was designed to expedite and simplify the simulation process. The GUI was developed using ABAQUS software and Python, with actual tanker ship data and A36 steel material, ensuring the relevance of the analysis results to real-world conditions. Simulations were performed on 9 different structural variations to analyze stress, buckling, and deformation in the double bottom structure. Based on the analysis results referring to the Biro Klasifikasi Indonesia rules, variation 9 with an 8 mm plate thickness and 80x80x7 mm L-profile size showed optimal performance. The structure exhibited a Von Mises stress of 181.984 MPa, which is within the allowable stress limit, a deformation of 3.2 mm, and a weight of 19.32 tons, lighter than other variations. This study demonstrates that the GUI design is effective in speeding up and simplifying compression analysis while assisting in determining the optimal design for the double bottom tanker structure.
