Abstract

This study aims to identify and evaluate alternative renewable energy systems based on containerized solar energy solutions to improve the electrification ratio in remote areas of West Manggarai, East Nusa Tenggara. This region faces significant challenges in electricity access, with many areas not yet connected to the conventional power grid. Three containerized solar energy system alternatives were analyzed for Nara Hamlet namely PV + Battery, PV + Diesel, and PV + Battery + Diesel using the HOMER Pro simulation tool. The simulation results indicate that the PV + Battery + Diesel configuration offers the most balanced solution in terms of technical and economic performance. The system is designed with a total installed PV capacity of 46.74 kWp (2.46 kWp × 19 containers), 48V 100Ah batteries, and a 5 kVA diesel generator, capable of meeting the annual energy needs of 42 households over a five-year rental period. All three configurations show a similar payback period of approximately 10 years. However, in terms of Levelized Cost of Energy (LCOE), the PV + Battery and PV + Battery + Diesel options are more cost-effective (Rp4,505–Rp4,513/kWh) compared to PV + Diesel (Rp13,558/kWh). The Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP) was used to determine the weights of the evaluation criteria, with reliability scoring the highest weight (25.83%), followed by ROI (16.23%) and technical aspects (14.35%). The Technique for Order Preference by Similarity to Ideal Solution (TOPSIS) method was then applied to rank the alternatives. The results show that the PV + Battery + Diesel system has the highest preference score (0.6147), making it the top priority for consideration in the development of containerized renewable energy systems in the study area.
