Abstract

Wayfinding is one aspect of human perception that should be considered in designing a public built environment. Wayfinding is a psychological process of navigating between destinations. The method of wayfinding differs between people and they use different devices as means of orientation and reference points. Designers should develop means to ease navigation into the built environment design. The theory of Wayfinding is needed for Transit-Oriented Development (TOD) to be designed optimally. TOD aims to integrate urban development and the public transport system to promote pedestrian activity. Physical activity is a defining factor in designing an environment for youth, which requires its users to actively interact with the environment to develop growth, learning, and creativity. To implement the theory of wayfinding and respond to the issue of TOD in Jakarta Metropolitan Area, a neurophenomenological approach to a transport hub that serves beyond connecting various modes of transport and line-interchange, but also as a response to sensory stimuli, in the context of youth development is proposed.
