Abstract

The development of the digital era has significantly transformed the way people explore and understand history. Museums, as institutions that convey historical narratives, face increasing challenges in adapting conventional curatorial approaches, especially within the context of fashion history museums. Traditional curation practices are often constrained by physical space limitations, rigid narrative structures, and complex management systems. This design thesis explores the integration of virtual technology as a solution to create a curatorial experience that is immersive, flexible, and liberated from these limitations.
The design approach is grounded in the concept of movement in architecture, with a focus on pictorial representation to evoke strong visual and emotional experiences. Multisensory experiments combining Visual-Audio-Haptic and Visual-Audio-Luminous elements inform the spatial zoning process. The design method employs a performance form approach, specifically explored through the development of a movement diagram, which guides the spatial organization and flow of sentient experience.
The integration of haptic elements contributes to the idea of a real museum, while luminous and light-based effects support the creation of a virtual museum. Video mapping serves as the primary technology in constructing these virtual elements. The overall design refers to the concept of sensory narrative that applied to several zone, which is in each zone and spatial element is curated to trigger unique multisensory experiences. By combining real and virtual spaces, the narration of fashion history becomes more transformative and interactive. The use of virtual technology in museums addresses curatorial challenges related to spatial efficiency, narrative depth, and management effectiveness.
