Abstract

This design explores the potential of architecture as a collectible and as an embodiment of idolization through the theory of fantasmagoria, which addresses illusion, imagery, and the phenomenon of visual consumption in contemporary capitalism. By positioning the stairs as a representative element of the fantasmagoria being explored, both the architecture and the stairs within this design are redefined, architecture is no longer merely a functional space, but a medium of visual and sensory experiences that evoke an illusion of hierarchical desire for ownership, while the staircase serves as a connecting surface representing the journey through these layers of sensation. Building upon theoretical studies, analyses of mewah brands and the hypebeast phenomenon, as well as precedents of spectacular architecture, this project develops an immersive organic structure on the site of an abandoned existing building, injecting and carving into the original structure to form an illusion of gradual spatial hierarchy that reflects the stages of idolization sensations. The design methodology involves form exploration, vertical space mapping based on stages of addiction, and the arrangement of spatial connectivity systems, ultimately producing architecture as both an experience and an image that can be collected physically and symbolically.
