Abstract

Biofouling is a common issue that occurs on the hulls of wooden boats, especially those used regularly in tropical waters. One common method to reduce the growth of Biofouling organisms is the application of antifouling paint. This study aimed to identify the types of Biofouling organisms found on the hulls of wooden boats in the waters of Gili Noko, to describe differences in organism composition between boats with different treatments (no paint, antifouling paint brand A, and antifouling paint brand B), and to observe the environmental conditions during sample collection. Samples were taken from three boats with different surface treatments. Four observation points were selected on each boat, each measuring 10×10 cm. The organisms attached to the hulls were observed morphologically using a stereo microscope and a light microscope. Environmental parameters such as temperature, salinity, pH, current speed, light penetration, and dissolved oxygen were also recorded as supporting data. The results showed that Enteromorpha flexuosa and Oscillatoria rubescens were the most frequently observed species, appearing on all boats. The boat without antifouling paint showed a greater number of organism types visually, while the boats with antifouling paint showed a more limited and consistent composition. Audouinella sp. was only found on the boat painted with brand B. The environmental conditions during the study were within the normal range for tropical waters and generally supported the growth of marine organisms. The results of this study are descriptive in nature and are not used to determine the quantitative effectiveness of each treatment.
