Abstract

Dipandu oleh Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA) Plan of Work 2020 serta kerangka kerja berbasis gaya (force‑based framework), perancangan ini merespons faktor sosial, lingkungan, dan ekonomi sekaligus memastikan inklusivitas.

Urban revitalisation has emerged as a critical strategy in addressing the decline of industrial waterfronts worldwide, transforming underused port areas into vibrant cultural and public spaces. Rooted in principles of holistic intervention, heritage preservation, and community engagement, revitalisation seeks to balance the memory of place with contemporary urban needs. This approach informs the redevelopment of Southampton’s Mayflower Park, a waterfront site historically linked to transatlantic voyages such as the Mayflower and Titanic but currently fragmented and underutilised due to industrial expansion and restricted public access.
The project proposes a cultural hub that reconnects the city with its waterfront, integrating adaptive reuse, cultural programming, and climate‑resilient design. Guided by the Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA) Plan of Work 2020 and a force‑based framework, the design responds to social, environmental, and economic factors while ensuring inclusivity. Precedent studies of HafenCity in Hamburg and Darling Harbour in Sydney provide key insights into strategies for integrating heritage with mixed‑use development and activating waterfront spaces through creative industries and public events.
Through this revitalisation, Mayflower Park is envisioned as a year‑round destination that enhances Southampton’s identity, supports local cultural economies, and promotes long‑term resilience against environmental and social challenges.
