Abstract
Perancangan mengikuti kerangka RIBA Plan of Work, melalui analisis tapak, studi preseden, simulasi lingkungan, hingga pemrograman spasial, dan menghasilkan desain hingga RIBA Tahap 4 berupa Desain Teknis.

The Marchwood Passenger Harbour is a hybrid infrastructure proposal that integrates a ferry terminal, public fish market, and hotel into a single architectural scheme along the previously underutilized estuary edge of Marchwood, within the coastal area of Southampton. Situated between industrial port activity and residential settlements, the project revitalizes a fragmented waterfront into a zone for civic engagement, local commerce, and environmental resilience. This research addresses the challenge of reconnecting coastal edges through inclusive design approaches that promote sustainable mobility and community-based economies.
The design follows the framework of the RIBA Plan of Work, progressing through site analysis, precedent studies, environmental simulations, and spatial programming, culminating in a proposal resolved to RIBA Stage 4 – Technical Design. Sustainability strategies are implemented through passive climate control, daylight optimization, and green infrastructure in accordance with BREEAM standards. Social interaction is strengthened by providing direct access for local fishermen to dock and sell their catch on-site, while flexible vendor spaces support public activation and community-scale trade.
The project reframes neglected waterfront infrastructure as a civic-hybrid model combining public utility, local economic support, and coastal resilience. It demonstrates that architecture can move beyond construction to become a catalyst for spatial regeneration and a replicable sustainable strategy in similar coastal contexts.
