Abstract
The reliability of gas pipeline systems depends on the condition of the external coating, which functions as protection against corrosion. Coating degradation or damage can be caused by several factors, such as application errors, environmental or natural conditions, and chemical influences. Indirect assessment has become one of the effective methods for detecting coating degradation and accurately determining pipeline location. This study aims to analyze the external coating condition and pipeline location of gas pipelines owned by the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources in Semarang City using the Pipeline Current Mapper – Alternating Current Voltage Gradient (PCM-ACVG) and Direct Current Voltage Gradient (DCVG) methods. The PCM-ACVG method is used to identify the location and level of current leakage due to coating degradation by measuring alternating current voltage gradients. Meanwhile, the DCVG method is applied to evaluate the degree of coating damage or defects based on direct current voltage differences around the pipeline. The results of the study found that most of the pipeline is located under roadside drainage channels, with the highest current drop observed at the pipeline crossing area KP 2+550, showing a 24% current drop. Additionally, 9 coating defect anomalies were identified along the pipeline route, categorized as small (with %IR less than 15%). Based on this assessment, further verification is recommended at the defect locations, especially at KP 2+550, through manual excavation, coating repair, and optimization of the cathodic protection system by adding anodes at that point if necessary.
