Abstract

Every human being has the right to get proper educational services from an early age, including children with special needs. With an inclusive education system, these rights can be realized. It's just that there are still shortcomings in the implementation of the system, one of which is in the aspect of facilities in inclusive schools. The need for facilities at inclusive schools should adjust to the needs of students with special needs and regular students without complicating one of them. The mismatch of facilities in inclusive schools that are available with the needs of users with special needs, especially autism users, causes many autistic students to have difficulty participating in the learning process at school. Therefore, the purpose of the design emerged to adapt inclusive school facilities to the needs of students with autism but not to reduce the comfort and convenience of other users. The design process uses a force-based framework from Plowright which is carried out by interviewing several teachers and alumni from one of the private inclusive schools in Surabaya. The force-based framework was chosen because it made the existing problems the basis of the design objectives. While the interview method is used to obtain additional information on the use and need for facilities at inclusive schools in the field. The final result of the design has met the design objectives by providing facilities that suit the needs of students with autism and regular students. This fulfilment can be seen from the design aspects of circulation, space size, facilities, and security based on inclusive design requirements.
