Abstract

Variasi sudut dibawah 90⁰ memiliki tren pengurangan performa dibandingkan turbin savonius tipe modified bach tanpa deflector. Sedangkan variasi sudut 90⁰ keatas memiliki tren kenaikan performa.

The energy mix in Indonesia is still dominated by oil and gas, which contradicts the KLHK's goal of reducing gas emissions. However, from the ESDM report, the percentage of the renewable energy mix has an increasing trend in recent years. One type of renewable energy technology that can be developed to support this trend is ocean current turbines. Of the various types of ocean current turbines, one type that can work at low current speeds like Indonesia is the modified bach savonius turbine which is a development of the conventional savonius turbine. As a result of carrying the conventional savonius turbine concept that relies on drag, its performance is limited by the presence of blades that oppose the direction of the flow. Therefore it is necessary to add a deflector on the rear blade to improve its performance. Through a 2-dimensional numerical simulation (computational fluid dynamics) with ansys fluent, the addition of a deflector is simulated. The deflector angle is varied to get the best performance coefficient. Angle variations that are carried out include the angle of 44⁰; 90⁰; 95.5⁰; 95.8⁰; 101⁰; and 106.5⁰. Angle variations below 90⁰ have a downward trend in performance compared to the turbine without deflectors. Meanwhile, variations in the angle of 90⁰ and above have an increasing trend in performance. The best average coefficient of power occurs at a deflector angle of 101⁰ with an average increase of 9.34%. In addition, the highest coefficient of power can be achieved at a 90⁰ deflector angle with a coefficient of power of 0.32.
