Abstract
Organic coating sering kali diterapkan pada body mobil. Penerapannya biasanya didasarkan pada nilai estetika dan ketahanan korosinya. Sedangkan metode pelapisannya, dipilih berdasarkan pertimbangan ekonomis dan kualitas yang dihasilkan. Air spraying merupakan salah satu metode yang sering dipakai, baik dengan pengeringan oven (paksa) maupun pengeringan normal/udara. Selain itu kualitas coating juga ditentukan oleh bahan coating. Melihat kenyataan bahwa metode ini sering kali diterapkan, maka perlu dilakukan penelitian terhadap performa organic coating/cat terhadap kemampuannya menghambat korosi. Pengaruh metode pengeringan cat pada pengecatan air spraying yaitu pengeringan oven (paksa) dan pengeringan normal/udara diambil sebagaz salah satu bahan penelitian. Sedangkan untuk sistem coating, hanya lapisan primer yang diambil sebagai parameter yang divariabelkan. Jenis lapisan primer yang diambil antara lain wash primer, lacquer primer dan epoxy primer. Kualitas coating diuji salt spray (ASTM B- 117) selama 168 jam pengujian dan dilakukan pengamatan setiap periode 24 jam pengujian selesai. Dari setiap pengamatan perperiodenya diperoleh data perubahan berat, ketebalan dan data visual spesimen. Dari penelitian ini diperoleh jenis lapis an primer sebagai lapisan anti korosi terbaik secara berurutan sebagai berikut wash primer, epoxy primer dan lacquer primer. Metode pengeringan oven (paksa) lebih baik daripada metoae pengeringan biasa (udara) dalam menghambat terjadinya kerusakkan cat. Diperoleh juga bahwa lapisan cat tidak larut akibat pengujian salt spray. Selain itu proses korosi pada logam mempercepat kerusakan pada organic coating. Organic coatings are frequently applied to car bodies. Their application is typically based on aesthetic value and corrosion resistance. The coating method is chosen based on economic considerations and the resulting quality. Air spraying is one of the most frequently used methods, with both forced oven drying and normal/air drying. Furthermore, coating quality is also determined by the coating material. Given the fact that this method is frequently applied, it is necessary to conduct research on the performance of organic coatings/paints in terms of their ability to inhibit corrosion. The effect of paint drying methods on air spraying painting, namely forced oven drying and normal/air drying, was taken as one of the research materials. Meanwhile, for the coating system, only the primer layer was taken as a variable parameter. The types of primer layers used included wash primer, lacquer primer, and epoxy primer. Coating quality was tested using salt spray (ASTM B-117) for 168 hours of testing, and observations were made every 24-hour period after the test was completed. From each observation period, data on changes in weight, thickness, and visual data of the specimens were obtained. This study found the best anti-corrosion primer coatings, in order: wash primer, epoxy primer, and lacquer primer. The oven-drying method (forced) was superior to the conventional air-drying method in preventing paint damage. It was also found that the paint layer did not dissolve due to the salt spray test. Furthermore, the corrosion process in metal accelerates the damage to organic coatings. Damage that appeared due to the salt spray test was blistering, peeling, and surface corrosion
