Abstract
Martensitic stainless steel hampir sama dengan baja karbon dengan paduan rendah, mempunyai struktur yang mirip denganferritic steel. Bagaimanapun dengan penambahan karbon, baja tahan karat dapat dikeraskan dan dikuatkan dengan heat treatment. Unsure paduan utama chrom ini sebanyak 12-17%, molybdenum (0,2-1 %), 1,6 nickel dan 0,1-1,2% karbon. Dalam tugas akhir ini obyek yang diteliti adalah baja tahan karat martensitic stainless steel AISI 431 dengan kadar krom 17%, 0,2%karbon, 1,6 nickel. Dalam kondisi dikeraskan dan di temper mempunyai kekuatan material yang baik, tangguh, tahan terhadap korosi. Baja jenis ini banyak digunakan untuk: poros, spindels, komponen pompa, kerucut katup, dudukan katup, batangan penyambung, armatures ,steer, baut, mur, ring, flang. Baja tahan karat AISI 431 ini di laku panas mencapai temperatur 950°C (konstan) selama 15 menit, 30 menit, 45 menit, 60 menit. Kemudian dilakukan jominy hardenability test, dilakukan uji metallography, ditimbang berat awal, dilakukan uji korosi dengan media asam klorida minimal 24 jam, dilakukan ulang uji metallography untuk mengetahui jenis korosi yang timbul pada baja tahan karat AISI 431, di timbang ulang untuk mengetahui weight loss untuk mengetahui laju korosi yang terjadi. Dari basil pengujian tersebut diatas didapatkan basil sebagai berikut : baja tanpa laku panas mengalami laju korosi sebesar 51 ,8 mpy, untuk baja mengalami laku panas 950°C dengan holding time 15 menit laju korosi bagian ujung 54 mpy, tengah 53 mpy, pangkal 52 mpy, untuk baja yang mengalami laku panas 950°C dengan holding time 30 menit mengalami laju korosi bagian ujung 65 mpy, tengah 66 mpy, pangkal 62,6 mpy, untuk baja mengalami laku panas 950°C dengan holding time 45 menit laju korosi yang terjadi bagian ujung 76 mpy, tengah 72 mpy, pangkal 74 mpy, untuk baja yang mengalami laku panas 950°C dengan holding time 60 menit laju korosi yang terjadi

Martensitic stainless steel is almost the same as low-alloy carbon steel, having a structure similar to ferritic steel. However, with the addition of carbon, stainless steel can be hardened and strengthened by heat treatment. The main alloying elements are 12-17% chromium, molybdenum (0.2-1%), 1.6% nickel and 0.1-1.2% carbon. In this final project, the object studied is martensitic stainless steel AISI 431 with 17% chromium content, 0.2% carbon, 1.6% nickel. In hardened and tempered conditions, it has good material strength, toughness, and corrosion resistance. This type of steel is widely used for: shafts, spindles, pump components, valve cones, valve seats, connecting rods, armatures, steering, bolts, nuts, washers, flanges. This AISI 431 stainless steel is heat treated to a temperature of 950°C (constant) for 15 minutes, 30 minutes, 45 minutes, 60 minutes. Then a jominy hardenability test is carried out, a metallography test is carried out, the initial weight is weighed, a corrosion test is carried out with hydrochloric acid media for at least 24 hours, a repeat metallography test is carried out to determine the type of corrosion that occurs in AISI 431 stainless steel, reweighed to determine the weight loss to determine the rate of corrosion that occurs. From the test results above, the following results were obtained: steel without heat treatment experienced a corrosion rate of 51.8 mpy, for steel experiencing heat treatment at 950°C with a holding time of 15 minutes, the corrosion rate at the tip was 54 mpy, the middle 53 mpy, the base 52 mpy, for steel experiencing heat treatment at 950°C with a holding time of 30 minutes, the corrosion rate at the tip was 65 mpy, the middle 66 mpy, the base 62.6 mpy, for steel experiencing heat treatment at 950°C with a holding time of 45 minutes, the corrosion rate at the tip was 76 mpy, the middle 72 mpy, the base 74 mpy, for steel experiencing heat treatment at 950°C with a holding time of 60 happened
