Abstract
Masalah aerodinamik sebuah sturktur komplek pada airan sering dialami oleh ahli teknik dan peneliti lain di beberapa dekade ini. Penelitian menunjukkan bahwa susunan aliran banyak diaplikasikan pada teknik dan tetap menunjukkan hal yang menarik pada bidang mekanika jluida, seperti bangunan lepas pantai, tiang jembatan, gedung, komponen alat penukar kalor, dan sebagainya. Penelitian mengenai karakteristik airan melalui silinder sirkular telah banyak dilakukan dan penting untuk diteruskan pada silinder ellips sebagai objek penelitian berikutnya karena silinder ellips mempunyai keuntungan yaitu tahanan aliran yang lebih rendah jika dibanding silinder sirkular. Pengetahuan mengenai perilaku aliran yang melintasi silinder ellips tunggal dengan irisan akan diambil sebagai tujuan utama dalam penelitian ini. Eksperimental dilakukan dalam terowongan angin dengan model silinder berpenampang ellips yang teriris di bagian leading edge dengan rasio sumbu ellips sebesar AlB = 114 (konstan). Variasi rasio antara tebal irisan ellips (t) dengan panjang sumbu mayor ellips(B), yaitu t!B = 0%, 5%, 10%, 15%. Reynolds Number yang digunakan pada penelitian ini yaitu sebesar 1,6x 104 , yang diperoleh berdasarkan dari panjang karakteristik sumbu minor ellips (A) dan kecepatan aliran fluida bebas (U) sebesar 8,96 mls yang didapat dari penelitian silinder sirkular tunggal dengan diameter 114 mm. Fenomena aliran akan diamati dari hasil pengukuran distribusi tekanan sepanjang kontur model dengan cara memasang pressure tap sepanjang kontur dan distribusi kecepatan dibelakang model. Untuk memperkuat analisa, maka akan dilakukan visualisasi aliran dengan metode oil flow picture. dengan adanya irisan pada silinder ellips akan mengakibatkan mundurnya separasi. Dengan semakin mundurnya lokasi terjadinya separasi, maka daerah wake yang terjadi pun akan semakin kecil. Sehingga drag yang dihasilkan juga semakin kecil. Sedangkan jika dibandingkan dengan silinder ellips dengan rasio yang lebih besar yaitu AIB=113 maka gaya drag pada silinder ellips 114 lebih kecil

Aerodynamic problems of complex structures in fluids have been frequently encountered by engineers and other researchers in recent decades. Research shows that flow patterns are widely applied in engineering and remain of interest in the field of fluid mechanics, such as offshore structures, bridge piers, buildings, heat exchanger components, and so on. Research on the characteristics of fluids passing through circular cylinders has been extensively conducted and it is important to continue with elliptical cylinders as the next research object because elliptical cylinders have the advantage of lower flow resistance compared to circular cylinders. Knowledge of the flow behavior passing through a single elliptical cylinder with a slice will be taken as the main objective in this study. Experiments were carried out in a wind tunnel with an elliptical cylinder model sliced at the leading edge with an elliptical axis ratio of AlB = 114 (constant). Variations in the ratio between the thickness of the elliptical slice (t) and the length of the elliptical major axis (B), namely t!B = 0%, 5%, 10%, 15%. The Reynolds Number used in this study is 1.6x 104, which is obtained based on the length of the ellipse minor axis characteristic (A) and the free fluid flow velocity (U) of 8.96 mls obtained from the study of a single circular cylinder with a diameter of 114 mm. The flow phenomenon will be observed from the results of measuring the pressure distribution along the model contour by installing a pressure tap along the contour and the velocity distribution behind the model. To strengthen the analysis, flow visualization will be carried out using the oil flow picture method. with the presence of a slice on the ellipse cylinder will result in the separation retreat. With the increasingly retreating location of the separation, the wake area that occurs will be smaller. So the resulting drag is also smaller. Meanwhile, when compared to an elliptical cylinder with a larger ratio, namely AIB = 113, the drag force on the elliptical cylinder 114 is smaller
