Abstract
Proses shot peening adalah proses pengerjaan dingin yang sering digunakan pada pembentukan, pembersihan dan untuk menaikkan kekuatan Ielah dari material. Material yang digunakan adalah baja dengan kandungan karbon menengah. Proses perlakuan panas pada baja adalah untuk memperbaild sifat-sifat mekanik dari baja tersebut serta mengetahui pengaruh perlakuan panas dan shot peening terhadap sifat mekanis dan umur Ielah baja SUP9. Dalam percobaan ini material dikenai perlakuan panas, yaitu quenching dan tempering serta ada yang tidak mengalami perlakuan panas. Kedua jenis material tersebut kemudian ditembak dengan bijih besi (shot peening dengan variasi yang sudah ditentukan) serta ada yang tanpa proses shot peening. Setelah itu material dari hasil kedua proses tersebut diatas dilakukan pengujian tarik (tensile test), pengujian kekerasan (hardnes test), pengujian kelelahan (fatigue test) serta pengujian metallographi. Dari penelitian yang Ielah dilakukan dapat disimpulkan bahwa proses perlakuan panas dan shot peening dapat memperbaiki sifat-sifat mekanis dari baja seperti kekerasan, ketangguhan, dan kelelahan dengan rata rata kenaikan 25-35 %

Shot peening is a cold working process often used in shaping, cleaning, and increasing the fatigue strength of materials. The material used is medium-carbon steel. The heat treatment process on steel is to improve the mechanical properties of the steel and to determine the effect of heat treatment and shot peening on the mechanical properties and fatigue life of SUP9 steel. In this experiment, the material was subjected to heat treatment, namely quenching and tempering, and some were not subjected to heat treatment. Both types of material were then shot with iron ore (shot peening with predetermined variations) and some were without the shot peening process. After that, the material from the two processes above was subjected to tensile testing, hardness testing, fatigue testing, and metallographic testing. From the research that has been done, it can be concluded that the heat treatment and shot peening process can improve the mechanical properties of steel such as hardness, toughness, and fatigue with an average increase of 25-35%
