Abstract

Sistem perpipaan memegang peranan penting untuk mendukung proses di industri, seperti pada industri pembangkit listrik, sistem perkapalan dan kilang minyak. Elbow 90° merupakan komponen sistem perpipaan. Salah satu permasalahan yang dijumpai adalah timbulnya pressure drop aliran. Pressure drop yang terjadi di dalam elbow 90° selain disebabkan oleh efek friksi juga oleh efek secondary flow. Penambahan sudu pengarah (guide vane) merupakan salah satu metode untuk mengurangi efek secondary flow, namun di sisi lain adanya guide vane dapat meningkatkan efek friksi. Oleh karena itu penelitian ini dimaksudkan untuk mengkaji fenomena aliran di dalam elbow 90° dan pengaruh penambahan guide vane terhadap pressure drop aliran. Visualisasi aliran secara eksperimen dan numerik dapat memperjelas diskripsi aliran yang terjadi untuk kondisi di atas dan dapat memberikan informasi tentang adanya vortex dan secondary flow di dalam elbow 900. Model uji yang digunakan berupa rectangular elbow 90° dengan radius ratio (rid) 1.875 tanpa dan dengan satu guide vane. Angka Reynolds yang digunakan berdasarkan diameter hidrolik, yaitu: ReDH = 21000 dan ReDH = 84000 Variabel yang diukur adalah tekanan stagnasi dan tekanan statis. Tekanan stagnasi diukur dengan menggunakan stagnation pressure tube sedangkan tekanan statis diukur dengan wall pressure tap. Penelitian ini akan didukung dengan visualisasi a/iran secara eksperimen dengan menggunakan asap dan secara numerik dengan menggunakan software fluent 6.2. Pada ReDH = 21000 penambahan satu guide vane dapat mengurangi pressure drop sebesar 33.4%, sedangkan untuk RevH = 84000 penambahan satu guide vane dapat meningkatkan pressure drop sebesar 3. 7%. Dari hasil visualisasi aliran menunjukkan adanya aliran sekunder di sisi cross section dan di sisi corner

Piping systems play an important role in supporting industrial processes, such as in power generation, shipping, and oil refineries. A 90° elbow is a component of a piping system. One of the problems encountered is the occurrence of flow pressure drop. The pressure drop that occurs in a 90° elbow is caused not only by friction but also by the effect of secondary flow. The addition of a guide vane is one method to reduce the effect of secondary flow, but on the other hand, the presence of a guide vane can increase the effect of friction. Therefore, this study aims to examine the flow phenomenon in a 90° elbow and the effect of adding a guide vane on the flow pressure drop. Experimental and numerical flow visualization can clarify the flow description that occurs for the above conditions and can provide information about the presence of vortex and secondary flow in a 90° elbow. The test model used is a 90° rectangular elbow with a radius ratio (rid) of 1.875 without and with one guide vane. The Reynolds number used is based on the hydraulic diameter, namely: ReDH = 21000 and ReDH = 84000 The variables measured are stagnation pressure and static pressure. Stagnation pressure is measured using a stagnation pressure tube while static pressure is measured with a wall pressure tap. This research will be supported by experimental visualization of a/iran using smoke and numerically using fluent 6.2 software. At ReDH = 21000 the addition of one guide vane can reduce the pressure drop by 33.4%, while for RevH = 84000 the addition of one guide vane can increase the pressure drop by 3.7%. The results of the flow visualization show that there is a secondary flow on the cross section side and on the corner side
