Abstract

Screw feeder is a material transfer device, especially bulk material, which is very important in the industrial world to increase work productivity and time efficiency. The formulation of screw feeder capacity so far only takes into account the dimensions or types of screws and does not involve the properties of bulk materials, resulting in deviations in the design results and ineffective construction or even inoperability, so that other, better analysis methods are needed. In this final project, the analysis is carried out with a new approach to formulate the screw feeder capacity, namely by using mathematical modeling of the interaction of bulk materials with screw flights. This formulation is based on the direction of material movement in the screw which is determined by the magnitude of the material friction angle and the screw dimensions. From the analysis results, it was found that the displacement of bulk material in one screw rotation is smaller than the length of the screw pitch. The longer the screw pitch causes changes in capacity to be more sensitive to changes in the material friction angle (rp), where with an increase in rp, the greater the screw pitch causes a greater decrease in capacity. To obtain the maximum transfer capacity of a material, a screw feeder with a certain PID ratio must be used depending on the friction angle of the material
