Abstract
Sebagai bahan bakar pengganti bahan bakar mesin diesel yang biasa menggunakan solar, biodiesel harus mempunyai karakteristik mendekati bahan bakar solar. Penelitian ini dimaksudkan untuk mendapatkan hasil studi kelayakan mengenai penggunaan biodiesel sebagai bahan bakar alternatif dari mesin diesel, terutama dari sisi karakteristik semprotan dengan mendekatkan pada kondisi ruang bakar sesungguhnya. Pengujian bahan bakar biodiesel ini dilakukan dengan uji laboratorium dengan metode komparasi. Yaitu membandingkan bahan bakar biodiesel dan bahan bakar solar. Penelitian ini dimulai dari pembuatan model ruang bakar untuk pendekatan kondisi operasional. Data properties bahan bakar diperoleh dari pengujian. Pengujian karakteristik semprotan dilakukan di ruang bakar yang bertekanan dengan menggunakan manual injektor tester merk Bosch memakai nozzle injektor mobil Mitsubishi L300 dengan diameter nozzle 0.55 mm. Visualisasi semprotan direkam dengan menggunakan high speed camera. Hasil penelitian tersebut digunakan sebagai data penunjang untuk simulasi dengan menggunakan program fluent 6. 2.16. Hasil yang didapatkan dari penelitian ini adalah properties biodiesel (BJOO) mendekati solar. Penetrasi biodiesel (B JOO) lebih panjang, sudut semprotan lebih kecil, SMD lebih besar, waktu break-up lebih lama dan jarak break-up lebih panjang. Ketika tekanan ruang bakar percobaan dinaikkan kecenderungan kedua bahan bakar sama. Demikian pula yang terjadi ketika tekanan injeksi dinaikkan

As a substitute fuel for diesel engines that usually use diesel fuel, biodiesel must have characteristics close to diesel fuel. This study aims to obtain the results of a feasibility study regarding the use of biodiesel as an alternative fuel for diesel engines, especially in terms of spray characteristics by approaching the actual combustion chamber conditions. The testing of this biodiesel fuel was carried out by laboratory tests with a comparative method. That is, comparing biodiesel fuel and diesel fuel. This study began with the creation of a combustion chamber model to approach operational conditions. Fuel properties data were obtained from testing. Spray characteristics testing was carried out in a pressurized combustion chamber using a Bosch manual injector tester using a Mitsubishi L300 car injector nozzle with a nozzle diameter of 0.55 mm. Spray visualization was recorded using a high-speed camera. The results of this study were used as supporting data for simulations using the fluent 6 program. 2.16. The results obtained from this study are that the properties of biodiesel (BJOO) are close to diesel. Biodiesel penetration (B JOO) is longer, the spray angle is smaller, the SMD is larger, the break-up time is longer, and the break-up distance is longer. When the experimental combustion chamber pressure was increased, the two fuels exhibited the same tendency. The same thing happened when the injection pressure was increased
