Abstract

Noise from Air conditioning system is often neglected due to the purpose of its use is to provide thermal comfort. From this, research was carried out to reduce noise by using the passive noise control (PNC) method with using an acoustic louvre panel. The acoustic louvre panel in this study was analyzed for its ability to reduce noise in the Heating, Ventilating, and Air Conditioning (HVAC) System so that it can distribute fresh air also reduced noise by the panel was installed at the outlet of the HVAC system. The measurement method uses a linear rectangular ducting with an inlet in the form of a fan as a source of airflow and a loudspeaker as a noise source. The variation used is a louvre with 4 blades, 5 blades, and 6 blades. Acoustic performance was analyzed based on the parameters of Transmission Loss (TL), Insertion Loss (IL) and directivity at the outlet. By using a 1/3 octave filter in the range of 20 to 8,000 Hz, the highest TL value is 22 dB at 63 Hz, IL reaches 15 dB at 200 Hz and the directivity is quite good around the outlet in the ducting. The mechanical performance of the louvre in the form of a pressure drop parameter of about 24 Pa with the air temperature distribution shows that there is no influence of thermal distribution along the HVAC system so that the installation of the louvre acoustic panel is quite effective in reducing noise with the impact of mechanical parameters being not too significant.
