Abstract
Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis pengaruh variasi media pendingin terhadap kekuatan tarik dan struktur metalografi pada sambungan las SMAW baja SS316. Riset ini dilakukan setelah menemukan permasalahan pada fabrikasi, pada saat proses penyimpanan ditemukan nya material yang mengalami Crack saat dilakukan uji Destructive Test (DT). Pada penilitian ini dilakukan tiga variasi perlakuan pendinginan yang diuji adalah pendinginan dengan udara terbuka, pencelupan ke dalam air, dan pencelupan kedalam oli. Uji tarik dilakukan untuk menentukan kekuatan sambungan las, sedangkan analisis metalografi digunakan untuk mengamati perubahan struktur mikro akibat variasi media pendingin. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa laju pendinginan memberikan pengaruh signifikan terhadap nilai kekuatan tarik, kekerasan, dan karakteristik mikrostruktur pada material SS316 hasil pengelasan SMAW. Pendinginan menggunakan air menghasilkan kekuatan mekanik paling tinggi, sedangkan pendinginan udara memberikan kombinasi terbaik antara keuletan dan ketangguhan. Pendinginan oli menunjukkan yield strength tertinggi namun kekuatan tarik paling rendah. Analisis struktur mikro mengungkapkan variasi ukuran butir, kerapatan twins, serta zona HAZ yang memengaruhi sifat mekanik. Penelitian ini menegaskan pentingnya pemilihan media pendingin untuk memperoleh kualitas sambungan las yang optimal.

This study aims to analyze the effect of variations in cooling media on the tensile strength and metallographic structure of SMAW welded joints of SS316 steel. This research was conducted after finding problems in fabrication, during the storage process, material was found to have Cracks when the DT (Destructive Test) was carried out. In this study, three variations of cooling treatments were tested, namely cooling with open air, immersion in water, and immersion in oil. Tensile testing was conducted to determine the strength of the welded joint, while metallographic analysis was used to observe the microstructural changes due to variations in the cooling medium. The results showed that the cooling rate significantly affected the tensile strength, hardness, and microstructural characteristics of SS316 material resulting from SMAW welding. Water cooling produced the highest mechanical strength, while air cooling provided the best combination of ductility and toughness. Oil cooling showed the highest yield strength but the lowest tensile strength. Microstructural analysis revealed variations in grain size, twin density, and HAZ zones that affected the mechanical properties. This study emphasized the importance of selecting the cooling medium to obtain optimal weld joint quality.
