Abstract

With the friction welding method being more widely applied for welding on solid metals, the author wants to know the results of the connection when applied to welding on pipes which is claimed to shorten welding time. Because in the ordinary electric welding process, welders experience many difficulties so that it takes a long time to weld pipes. Based on friction welding experiments that have been carried out, the results of pipe welding have been obtained which have a lot of fingers at the root of the weld, so that it will contribute to reducing the mass flow of fluid flowing in the pipe. In this study, a simulation will be carried out using software based on Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD), to analyze the mass flow that occurs in pipes welded with friction welding. From the simulation results that have been carried out, it can be seen that there is a decrease in mass flow of less than 1%
