Abstract

Marine products in Indonesia are abundant because of the vast territorial waters. This marine product requires proper handling to maintain the quality of the fish. Handling of fresh fish is generally done traditionally using ice cubes. In addition, there is another cooling system that is commonly used, namely the vapor compression cooling system. However, the system must have enough space, so it tends to be less effective for small storage scales, and the use of refrigerants that are not environmentally friendly is starting to be reduced. This study aims to design a combination system between Thermoelectric Cooler (TEC) and Chilled Sea Water (CSW) which is expected to keep the temperature cool and prolong the cooling time so that the fish remains fresh. The thermoelectric cooler was chosen because it does not require ample space, so it is easier to assemble as a cooling system in a small room such as a storage box (portable coolbox). Experiments were carried out by varying the amount of thermoelectric and the number of comparisons between wet ice and dry ice. The experimental results obtained the highest thermoelectric performance in the experiment 3 TEC modules with a combination of wet ice and dry ice 1,5:1,5 of 0.851. The lowest average CSW temperature that can be achieved is 1.156°C, and the lowest room air temperature that can be achieved is 4.529°C in the experiment of 3 TEC modules with a combination of wet ice and dry ice 3:1 during the experiment in 120 minutes.
