Abstract

Tingginya kasus bunuh diri di Provinsi D.I.

The high number of suicide cases in the Special Region of Yogyakarta (DIY) reflects a multidimensional crisis that demands a shift from a reactive clinical approach to holistic social welfare interventions. This study aims to identify the factors causing the high suicide rate and formulate effective suicide prevention strategies in the Special Region of Yogyakarta. This study was conducted in Yogyakarta City and Gunungkidul Regency using the quantitative Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP) method, involving the assessment of 14 cross-sector expert respondents from the provincial government, practitioners from community health centers and clinical psychologists, academics, and the general public selected through a purposive sampling technique. This study analyzed the importance weights of the psychological and individual, social and relational, and structural and policy dimensions. The findings were then tested by calculating the consistency ratio to determine the consistency of respondents' answers. The main findings revealed that although psychological and individual factors were the highest risk determinants (40.68%), the most prioritized intervention strategy was not clinical treatment alone, but rather the establishment of peer support groups such as the "Safe Circle" program in elementary and secondary schools (13.11%) and the provision of Mobile Mental-Health Clinics (11.31%). These results indicate a novel perspective that strengthening the educational ecosystem and service accessibility are more crucial than curative approaches. The implications of this research underscore the urgency of reorienting public policy to prioritize early detection in educational institutions and strengthening social safety nets as the primary foundation for sustainable suicide risk mitigation
