Abstract

Pasar jam tangan mekanik terus bertumbuh hingga tahun 2021. Hal ini melatarbelakangi munculnya banyak microbrand jam tangan mekanik lima tahun terakhir. Sebagian microbrand menggunakan pendekatan desain audacious untuk menarik minat konsumen. Sayangnya, belum banyak pemain Indonesia yang memanfaatkan peluang ini. Penelitian ini dilakukan untuk meneliti desain audacious yang diminati, preferensi desain jam tangan mekanik, dan mengembangkan designdriven mechanical watch bergaya audacious dengan target konsumen watch enthusiast. In-depth interview dilakukan kepada lima kolektor jam tangan mekanik untuk mencari kebutuhan konsumen. Hasil wawancara diolah dan menghasilkan temuan-temuan, beberapa diantaranya: user suka jam tangan yang ‘bermain’ dengan cahaya, jam tangan yang unik namun tidak terlalu eksentrik, case berbahan stainless steel, dan diameter jam 36-41 mm dengan lug to lug maksimal 46 mm. Melalui user testing, ditemukan bahwa desain audacious bergaya pop diminati kolektor; yang akhirnya dijadikan konsep desain penelitian ini. Pembuatan moodboard, imageboard, dan thumbnail sketch dilakukan dalam ideasi desain; dengan kata kunci kasual, colorful, dan playful. Tes alternatif-alternatif final kepada user menunjukkan bahwa desain pop yang diminati adalah desain yang playful dan nyeleneh, namun tidak childish. Hasil akhir dari penelitian ini adalah jam tangan mekanik audacious bergaya pop dengan dial colorblock-memphis dan cushion case, bernama Midnight Madness.

The mechanical watch market continues to grow in 2021. This is the background for the emergence of many mechanical watch microbrands in the last five years. Some microbrands use the audacious design approach to attract consumers. Unfortunately, not many Indonesian players have taken advantage of this opportunity. This research was conducted to examine the preferred audacious designs, design preferences for mechanical watches, and develop a design-driven mechanical watch with audacious style with a target audience of watch enthusiasts. In-depth interviews were conducted with five collectors of mechanical watches to identify consumer needs. The results of the interviews were processed and produced findings, some of which were: users like watches that 'play' with light, watches that are unique but not too eccentric, stainless steel as a case material, and their preferred watch size is 36 -41 mm with a maximum lug to lug of 46 mm. Through user testing, it was found that the one of the most preferred audacious design was pop style, which was used as the design concept of this research. Mood board, imageboard, and thumbnail sketch were made for the ideation process; with keywords, such as casual, colorful, and playful. The final alternative user testing shows that the pop design they are interested in is a playful and whimsical design, but not childish. The final result of this research is a pop-style audacious mechanical watch design with a color block-Memphis dial and a cushion case, named Midnight Madness.
