Abstract

Industri semen merupakan satu dari sekian banyak industri yang menjadi dasar perkembangan perindustrian dan perekonomian yang ada di Indonesia. Menurut data Asosiasi Semen Indonesia (ASI), total kapasitas terpasang industri semen di 2021 mencapai 116 juta ton. Dengan tingginya tingkat produksi kantong semen di Indonesia, maka jumlah limbah kantong semen juga semakin banyak. Kantong semen memiliki karakteristik yang kuat melebihi kertas lainnya. Faktor ini membuka peluang bagi limbah kantong semen untuk diolah dengan menggunakan teknik upcycle. Teknik upcycle adalah proses mengubah limbah produk yang sudah tidak berguna menjadi produk baru dengan kualitas yang lebih baik. Dengan menggunakan teknik ini, limbah kantong semen dapat dirancang kembali menjadi produk tas wanita. Dalam penelitian ini, kantong semen diolah melalui eksplorasi teknik pewarnaan dan laminasi sehingga menghasilakan material yang menyerupai kulit. Merancang produk fesyen menggunakan teknik upcycle juga merupakan upaya mendukung tercapainya konsep eco fashion, atau yang dapat diartikan fesyen ramah lingkungan. Di lain sisi, masyarakat memiliki stigma buruk terhadap produk daur ulang sehingga produk daur ulang sulit untuk dikategorikan sebagai produk mewah yang dapat memasuki pasar menengah ke atas sehingga di Indonesia belum ada produk upcycle tas wanita yang berhasil memasuki pasar wanita bergengsi yang sebenarnya berpotensi untuk menjadi trendsetter. Hal ini menjadi peluang pasar yang potensial maka perlu dilakukan riset desain dan riset pengguna secara mendalam agar hal tersebut dapat terwujud. Dari latar belakang tersebut didapatkan tujuan dari perancangan ini, yaitu menghasilkan produk tas wanita menggunakan teknik upcycle material kantong semen untuk mencapai konsep fesyen ramah lingkungan dan dapat memasuki pasar wanita bergengsi.

The cement industry is one of the industries that form the basis of industrial and economic development in Indonesia. According to data from The Indonesian Cement Association (ASI), the total installed capacity of the cement industry in 2021 reached 116 million tons. As the high production rate of cement bags in Indonesia, the amount of cement bag waste is also increasing. Cement bags have a characteristic of being stronger than other paper. This factor opens up opportunities for cement bag waste to be processed using the upcycle technique. Upcycle technique is a process of converting waste products that are no longer useful into new products with better quality. By using this technique, cement bag waste can be redesigned into a valuable women's bag. In this research, cement bags are processed through an exploration of coloring and laminating techniques to produce a leather-like material. Designing fashion products using upcycle techniques is also a realization of eco fashion concept, or which can be interpreted as environmentally friendly fashion. Moreover, society has an unpleasant stigma towards recycled products lead to a difficulty to consider upcycled product as luxury production that can enter the upper middle market. Hence, there are no women's upcycled bag in Indonesia that have succeeded in entering the prestigious women's market which has a potential to become a trendsetter. As this is a potential market opportunity, it is necessary to conduct in-depth design research and user research in order to meet the desired expectation. Deriving out of this background, the purpose of mentioned design is to produce women's bags using the cement bag material upcycle technique to carry out an environmentally friendly fashion concept and entering the prestigious women's market.
