Abstract

Cerita rakyat Menak Sopal dari Kabupaten Trenggalek merupakan folklor populer yang mulai dilupakan. Kefamiliaran tokoh Menak Sopal belum sejalan dengan pelestarian dan wawasan masyarakat terhadap ceritanya. Berdasarkan fenomena tersebut, penulis menjadikan cerita rakyat Menak Sopal sebagai tema merancang motif batik baru di Trenggalek yang hingga saat ini motifnya masih seputar potensi alam dan kebudayaan lokal. Metode penelitian yang digunakan berfokus pada pengumpulan data kualitatif meliputi studi literatur dan eksisting yang diperkuat dengan observasi langsung dan depth interiew terhadap cerita Menak Sopal dan batik di Trenggalek. Data awal kemudian diolah pada studi eksperimental yang menghasilkan konsep cerita dan motif untuk diujikan melalui wawancara ahli hingga menghasilkan desain final. Luaran dari perancangan ini berupa desain motif batik dengan tema cerita rakyat yang menyajikan visualisasi cerita Menak Sopal dari Trenggalek dengan teknik stilasi dan deformasi mengacu pada motif batik klasik yang implementatif . Perancangan ini diharapkan dapat membantu pelestarian cerita rakyat Menak Sopal melalui batik, menambah keberagaman dan memberi nilai lebih pada motif batik Trenggalek.

The folklore of Menak Sopal from Trenggalek Regency is a popular folklore that is starting to be forgotten. The familiarity of the Menak Sopal figure is not in line with the preservation and public insight into the story. Based on this phenomenon, the author makes the folklore of Menak Sopal as the theme for designing new batik motifs in Trenggalek, which until now the motifs are still around the potential of nature and local culture. The research method used focuses on collecting qualitative data including literature and existing studies which are strengthened by direct observation and in-depth interviews with the stories of Menak Sopal and batik in Trenggalek. The initial data is then processed in an experimental study that produces story concepts and motifs to be tested through expert interviews to produce a final design. The output of this design is in the form of a batik motif design with a folklore theme that presents a visualization of the story of Menak Sopal from Trenggalek with stylization and deformation techniques referring to the implementation of classical batik motifs. This design is expected to help preserve the Menak Sopal folklore through batik, add diversity and add value to the Trenggalek batik motif.
