Abstract

The deposit of natural asphalt (Asbuton) on Buton Island is estimated to be 677 million tons (Kurniadji, 2010). However, it has not been fully utilized, so certain innovations are needed to utilize Asbuton as a binder in asphalt mixtures
with the smallest possible operational costs. This research will use a warm mix of Thin Hot Mix Asphalt (THMA) using a bitumen binder of pure extract of Asbuton B 50/30 and natural zeolite. The addition of natural zeolite in the mix was carried out at the optimum bitumen content of pure extract of Asbuton B 50/30 with variations of 0%; 1%; 1.5%, and 2% of the total weight of the mixture. The analysis carried out in this study is an assessment of the results of marshall stability testing, melting (flow), voids in the mixture (VIM), voids in the aggregate (VMA), voids filled with asphalt (VFA), and marshall quotient (MQ) that meet the characteristics of the General Specifications of Bina Marga 2018 Rev-2.
The results of this study indicate that the variation in the level of natural zeolite addition in the LTBA warm mix at Optimum Asphalt Content (KAO) = 5.95% can reduce mixing and compaction temperatures. The result of adding natural zeolite from 'Bandung' West Java of 1.5% with stability value = 1179.564 kg; VIM = 4.252%; VMA = 17.076%; melting value = 2.870 mm; VFA value 75.099%; and MQ value = 410.998 kg/mm, while for natural zeolite from 'Tulungagung' East Java at 1% with stability value = 1156.032 kg; VIM = 4.350%; VMA = 17.160%; melt value = 2.950 mm; VFA value 74.653%; and MQ value = 391.875 kg/mm. The mixing and compaction temperature of the results of adding natural zeolite is 145 ℃ according to the General Specifications of Bina Marga 2018 Rev-2. Reducing the heating energy from 165 ℃ to 145 ℃ can increase the production capacity from 42 tons/hour to 96 tons/hour, so there is a cost savings of Rp 46,816.49 for the addition of natural zeolite from 'Bandung' West Java. In contrast, adding natural zeolite from 'Tulungagung' East Java has a cost savings of Rp 41,151.49. In addition, the advantage of a warm mix can reduce global warming.
