Abstract

This research is motivated by the significant increase in throughput at Kijing Branch Port, with an accumulated increase of 171% from 2022 to 2024. This growth reflects the increasing demand for loading and unloading services, requiring companies to provide superior service and meet the growing market demand. However, on-the-ground conditions indicate that loading and unloading equipment, particularly key equipment such as mobile cranes, is still very limited. This limitation results in a low volume of cargo being served. This study conducted a comprehensive investment feasibility study, both from a financial and operational perspective, by procuring a mobile crane, which was previously rented, compared to procuring it in-house. This study assessed the investment feasibility of procuring a mobile crane compared to the rental option using the capital budgeting method with indicators of Net Present Value (NPV), Internal Rate of Return (IRR), Benefit Cost Ratio (BCR), Profitability Index (PI), and Payback Period (PP). Sensitivity analysis was used to test the effect of changes in costs, tariffs, and volume on investment feasibility. The results of the study indicate that the investment in procuring a Mobile Crane is considered financially feasible, provides a strong quantitative basis for strategic decision-making, and supports increased service capacity, revenue optimization, and efficiency in managing non-container cargo at Kijing Port.
