Abstract

This study aims to investigate the optical properties of thin films of anatase-phase titanium dioxide (TiO₂), reduced graphene oxide (rGO), and TiO₂-rGO composites deposited on glass substrates using the spray pyrolysis method. The morphology of the films was observed using an optical microscope supported by Scope Image software, and further analysis was performed using a Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM) and image histograms. The optical properties of the films were characterised using a visible spectrometer in the wavelength range of 400–750 nm to obtain reflectance and absorbance data, which were then used to calculate the refractive index and optical conductivity. The results showed that the 1-spray TiO₂ film had the highest absorbance, while increasing the number of sprays decreased the absorbance due to increased thickness. In a comparison between materials, the TiO₂/rGO composite showed the highest absorbance, indicating an increase in light absorption due to the role of rGO as an electron conductor. Calculations of the refractive index showed values of 3–7 with a normal dispersion pattern, increasing with the number of sprays. The TiO₂/rGO composite also had a higher refractive index than the pure film. Digital image-based analysis supported the optical results by showing that the TiO₂/rGO composite had the most homogeneous image, while rGO had the highest contrast.
