Abstract

Industri pertambangan memiliki peran strategis dalam perekonomian Indonesia, namun minat generasi muda terhadap karier di sektor ini masih rendah akibat keterbatasan media edukatif yang mengenalkan profesi dan proses kerja pertambangan. Penelitian ini bertujuan merancang media komik sebagai sarana edukasi visual untuk mengenalkan profesi serta proses pertambangan tembaga kepada remaja usia 13-15 tahun, sekaligus meningkatkan pengetahuan dan ketertarikan mereka terhadap industri pertambangan. Metode penelitian meliputi studi literatur, studi karya sejenis, depth interview dengan ahli pertambangan dan stakeholder industri, serta proses perancangan komik melalui tahapan analisis kompetitor, penyusunan materi, dan eksplorasi visual. Produk yang dihasilkan berupa komik fisik dan digital yang kemudian dievaluasi melalui user testing menggunakan metode pre-test dan post-test terhadap 58 siswa-siswi Amman Academy, Kabupaten Sumbawa Barat. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan adanya peningkatan nilai rata-rata pemahaman responden dari 55,6 pada tahap pre-test menjadi 79,5 pada tahap post-test, dengan persentase peningkatan pengetahuan sebesar 42,98%. Selain itu, terjadi pergeseran dominan tingkat pemahaman responden dari kategori kurang ke kategori baik setelah membaca komik. Responden menilai komik mudah dipahami, menarik secara visual, serta mampu meningkatkan motivasi belajar melalui narasi ringan dan ilustrasi yang merepresentasikan konteks lingkungan pertambangan. Penelitian ini menyimpulkan bahwa komik berpotensi menjadi media visual yang efektif dalam meningkatkan literasi dan pemahaman remaja terhadap profesi dan proses pertambangan.

The mining industry plays a strategic role in Indonesia’s economy however, young people’s interest in pursuing careers in this sector remains low due to the limited availability of visual media that introduce mining professions and work processes. This study aims to design a comic as a visual educational medium to introduce copper mining professions and processes to teens aged 13-15 years, while also increasing their knowledge and interest in the mining industry. The research methods include literature reviews, analysis of comparable works, in-depth interviews with mining experts and industry stakeholders, and design process consisting of competitor analysis, content development, and visual exploration. The resulting product consists of both physical and digital comic formats, which were evaluated through user testing using pre-test and post-test methods involving 58 students of Amman Academy, West Sumbawa Regency. The results indicate an increase in the respondents’ average comprehension score from 55.6 in the pre-test to 79.5 in the post-test, with a knowledge improvement percentage of 42.98%. In addition, there was a dominant shift in respondents’ comprehension levels from the low category to the high category after reading the comic. Respondents perceived the comic as easy to understand, visually engaging, and effective in increasing learning motivation through light narration and illustrations that represent the mining environment context. This study concludes that comics have strong potential as an effective visual medium for improving adolescents’ literacy and understanding of mining professions and processes.
