Abstract

The development of a landfill facility for Hazardous and Toxic Waste (B3), particularly medical waste from hospitals, requires adequate geotechnical planning to ensure structural stability and environmental protection. This Final Project presents a geotechnical analysis of the proposed landfill site, including slope stability analyses of the landfill and its embankments. The analyses aim to ensure that the landfill and embankments remain stable under the applied waste loads. During the construction stage, an excavation with a depth of 10 meters and a slope inclination of 1:2.5 was carried out, resulting in the complete removal of soil layers with medium consistency. Based on these conditions, the landfill subgrade was assessed as having no significant potential for settlement; therefore, settlement analysis was not conducted. The results of the stability analysis indicate that the internal stability of the landfill satisfies the required safety criteria, and thus no reinforcement is necessary. However, the stability analysis of the embankment and the overall stability of the landfill show safety factors that do not meet the required standards. Consequently, reinforcement of the overall landfill stability using micropiles and embankment reinforcement using geotextiles were implemented. In addition, an analysis was conducted to ensure the stability of the adjacent pond, which is located next to the landfill, under landfill-loaded conditions. The base layer of the sanitary landfill was designed using a geomembrane liner system to prevent leachate seepage into the underlying soil and to protect groundwater quality. Furthermore, the sanitary landfill is equipped with a leachate drainage system consisting of primary and secondary channels that convey leachate to a leachate collection well. Surface drainage channels constructed with stone masonry are also provided to collect and direct rainfall runoff into the pond. Based on the planning results, the B3 sanitary landfill fulfills the required technical and environmental criteria.
