Abstract

Aluminium alloy merupakan material yang paling banyak
digunakan sebagai bahan industri dan otomotif. Salah satu jenis
aluminium alloy sendiri yang sering digunakan yaitu ADC 12.
ADC 12 digunakan untuk material pembuatan part otomotif
berupa piston.Untuk mendapatkan sifat mekanik yang diharapkan
ADC 12 sendiri memerlukan proses perlakuan panas precipitation
hardening T6 yang didalamnya terdapat 2 proses yaitu solution
treatment dan aging
Pada proses perlakuan panas precipitation hardening,
mula-mula material mengalami proses solution treatment yaitu
2, 4, 6, 8 jam. Analisa yang dilakukan pada sifat mekanik dan
struktur mikro.
holding time. Presipitat yang terbentuk sendiri berdasarkan
kesetaraan antara ADC 12 dengan aluminium tipe a 384 adalah
Al2Cu. Sifat mekanik ADC 12 juga meningkat dibanding dengan
as cast. Nilai kekerasan tertinggi pada spesimen 170˚C dengan
holding time 4 jam sebesar 108,04 BHN. Nilai tertinggi untuk
impact strength tertinggi terdapa pada spesimen 200˚C dengan
holding time 8 jam sebesar 0,0306 joule/mm2.

Aluminium alloy is one of the most used material in industry
and automotive. One of the most used aluminium alloy is ADC
12. ADC 12 is used in the design and making of piston, one of the
component in automotive vehicles. To obtain the mechanical
properties needed in the piston design, ADC 12 needs to be
processed by precipitation hardening heat treatment T6 which
includes of two procedures, solution treatment and aging.
The first process of precipitation hardening, is the solution
treatment process, where the material is heated until a 550°C
temperature is reached and held for 180 minutes. The material is
then quenched in a 60°C water medium and continued to the
aging process, where the material that had been quenched is
reheated in a variation of temperature 140°C, 170°C, 200°C and
held in a variation of 2, 4, 6, and 8 hours of holding time. The
mechanical properties and micro structure resulted in the process
with each variations is then analysed.
The result of the experiment showed that temperature and
holding time during the aging process give a significant effect on
the micro structure and mechanical properties of the processed
material. Size and the distribution of eutectic silicon seen in the
micro structure showed a big difference between each variation of
temperature and holding time. Al2Cu is the precipitate that is self
– formed as an equality between ADC 12 and A 384 type
Aluminium. The mechanical properties of ADC 12 is also
enhanced compared to as cast. The highest hardness value of the
processed alloy is 108, 04 BHN which is obtained through the
process of 170°C temperature and 4 hours holding time. The
highest impact strength value is 0,0306 Joule/mm2, which is
obtained through the 200°C and 8 hours holding time process.
