Abstract

This study aims to explore how ultrapoor womenpreneur survive amidst structural constraints and how they interpret the role of entrepreneurship in influencing their dignity. Employing a qualitative method with an Interpretative Phenomenological Analysis (IPA) approach, this research delves into the lived experiences of 11 participants. The findings reveal that survival strategies are formed through Effectuation logic. These entrepreneurs apply strict efficiency by utilizing available resources (bird-in-hand) and minimizing financial risks (affordable loss), which in practice often demands bodily sacrifice, such as enduring hunger to maintain business capital integrity. Additionally, a strong self-defense mechanism is developed to avoid high-interest debt traps, based on the principle that peace of mind is more valuable than risky business expansion.
Furthermore, this study finds that entrepreneurship is interpreted not merely as an economic activity, but as an instrument to restore self-worth. The dual role of motherhood proves to be a primary source of mental resilience rather than a barrier. The ability to build trust with suppliers succeeds in replacing the absence of physical collateral, providing them with social legitimacy and transforming their status from dependent parties into independent figures recognized by the community. Implicitly, this study supports the achievement of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly Goal 1 (No Poverty), Goal 5 (Gender Equality), and Goal 8 (Decent Work and Economic Growth) through women's empowerment in the informal sector.
